Did you know that since January 2007 Hartland has been collecting cooking oil. Although in today’s times and all the health messages, I’m not sure how many of us are using a lot of cooking oil.
In April 2007, the Government of Canada announced new national standards for lighting efficiency, with the phase-out of incandescent lights by 2012. The most common alternative is fluorescent lighting. Fluorescent lights contain mercury, which is toxic in the environment and human health.
CRD has purchased a Premium Bulb “Eater” for Hartland. It’s located in the household hazardous waste facility and is operated by the HHW attendant. The “Eater” crushes up to 1350 four-foot long fluorescent lamps into a 55-gallon drum for safe and ecologically sound disposal.
