My Special Places
Living in Saanich and this region has allowed me and my family to enjoy such “special areas”. This section of my website will highlight some of “My Saanich – Special Areas” on a regular basis.
Saanich Municipal Hall and it’s grounds
Did you know our municipal hall is a designated heritage building? Made from concrete at the time that was seen as solid and lasting, a statement about the strength of local government.
It’s unfortunate that a busy road runs past it and most people have not come into the parking area and walked around to the front to enjoy the wonderful gardens and water features. Take a close look at some of the gardens and you will see some vegetables growing … look closely! I support us having a Farmers Market here so residents can enjoy their local government site.
Gorge Waterway what a Gem!
I’m so thankful that Saanich Council of the day, decided that this was an important community asset to acquire and save for future generations. Saanich bought pieces of lands over the years and today we all get to enjoy this wonderful place. I love when the Community Association organizes the Canada Day Picnic and closes the road and of course, who could miss the annual Gorge on Art.
Blenkinsop Bridge, Mt Doug and of course Farmer Roy
This is an area, for me, typically represents the history of Saanich, farming as Farmer Roy looks over the lake and the natural environment we continue to preseve and enhance, Mt Doug Park.
Blenkinsop Bridge provides access across Blenkinsop Lake which, as the story goes, there was a bridge over the lake years ago and one colorful resident who had a float plane that he wanted to land on the lake, decided the old bridge impeded access and the old bridge was blown up!
Now, today Blenkinsop Bridge allows walkers and cyclists to enjoy the wondering areas of Saanich leading them along Lochside Trail to such great locations and enjoying the scenery along the way.
