New Master Plan for the Future

It’s been years since Saanich did a master plan for parks. It’s an area of concern I have raised over and over again. Saanich is developing “village” centres and we need “people places” like some greenspaces to gather. To accomplish that in the future we need to identify how we will do that.

Currently we have a numbers game around parks… so many people in an area equals a neighborhood parks, community park or regional park. We do have a number of parks, over 167!

Last year we finally started to look at this issue but have now added recreation and culture into the master plan.

The public meetings have been poorly attended and it will be important to put in your comments on the “draft”. This document will be coming to council early in 2012 and it will direct how we move forward.
